Watch what you write

Olympia, WA has a very important reminder on their Council Contact web page.

Please note: All written correspondence to the Olympia City Council, including email, is a public record, potentially eligible for release upon request.

While Public Record laws vary from state to state this is rather standard.

I remind people of this not to discourage communicating with their council members, but rather just watch what you write.

Make sure anything you write is something you wouldn’t mind reading in the newspaper.
